Mia Taylor

In July 2016, scientists from UK-OSNAP led a research cruise to the Irminger Sea, between Iceland and Greenland, to observe and collect measurements from the North Atlantic Subpolar Gyre. This is part of an international partnership to help build a better understanding of ocean circulation, climate variability and change in the Subpolar North Atlantic.

Since joining the cruise as an artist in residence, Mia has been working with a series of data sets that capture the salinity and temperature from ocean surface to ocean floor. Early experiments involve translating the data into watercolour paintings to map a stratified visual impression of the ocean currents at that time.
