ENSAV La Cambre Brussels - The Department of Subjective Archaeology - The Printmaking Union
The Department of Subjective Archaeology is a hypothetical division of
the Printmaking Union, a collaborative platform of research, exchange
and diffusion linking art institutions, students and schools, active in
the fields of contemporary fine art printmaking.
“You’ve got to dig it to dig it, you dig?” (Thelonious Monk)
It is time to compose !
"It is time to compose; in all the meaning of the word, including to compose with, that is compromise, to care, to move slowly, with caution and precaution.
That's quite a new set of skills to learn: imagine that, innovating as never before but with precaution ! " Bruno Latour, Compositionist Manifesto, 2010
It is then with precaution that we take in charge the present time so that, when the day comes, looking back, we might be able to contemplate there, upright, what we’ll have achieved.
Let the show come up to expectations so that we might all appraise the road travelled, without being startled by what came to us.
No future?
Today, however, if we consider that what is at stake is what the past will be, and so the future, it might be time to apply ourselves to write.
Let's not wait any longer for a messiah. Let’s dig instead. We’ve got to dig it !
The Printmaking Union is an international research initiative that creates knowledge and dialogue. It is established at the European Higher Education level. The approach to teaching can be experienced in relation to the pedagogy of the art schools. Research interests are both broadly and specifically defined through the diversity of staff and student interest.
